Brewery chain buys North Wales hotel near tourist spot

A hotel in a popular holiday destination in North Wales has been bought by a Manchester-based hospitality and brewery chain. JW Lees, which has sites across the North West and North Wales has purchased The Craigside Hotel on Llandudno’s Little Orme .

It already owns businesses in Conwy county including The Links Hotel in the same town and The Groes Inn in the Conwy Valley. JW Lees, whose purchase was handled by Christie & Co, said it is "delighted" with its purchase, North Wales Live reports.

JW Lees say they have "exciting" plans to "refurbish and reposition it" in the market. In a statement the new owners said they had agreed to acquire The Craigside Hotel in Little Orme from Whitbread plc.

The purchase includes both the Premier Inn and Brewers Fayre element of the Craigside Inn. William Lees-Jones, Managing Director of JW Lees, said: "We are delighted to be acquiring The Craigside Inn from Whitbread plc and it will take our inns and hotels business up to 366 bedrooms under company management.

"We have a number of successful sites in the Llandudno area including The Groes Inn Conwy, Wales’ oldest pub, and The Links Hotel and Station Hotel Llandudno and we look forward to welcoming the team and guests at The Craigside to being part of the JW Lees family business.

"We will continue to run the hotel for the foreseeable future and have exciting plans to refurbish and reposition it early in the New Year." JW Lees is a seventh-generation family brewery company, founded in 1828 by retired cotton manufacturer John Lees.
