Brevis, Miller and Faf retained for 2023 IPL season

Several South Africans including Dewald Brevis, Faf du Plessis and David Miller were retained by their Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises for the 2023 season.

On Tuesday, the 10 teams confirmed their squads and submitted their retained and released players list for the 16th edition of the IPL.

Teen Brevis was one of the notable retentions for the Mumbai Indians, as well as newcomer Tristan Stubbs.

Brevis played seven IPL games for Mumbai and scored 161 runs with a high score of 49 and even took a wicket, that of Virat Kohli.

Miller steered the Gujurat Titans to their maiden IPL title this year as he scored 481 runs in his 16 games, averaging 68.71.

Du Plessis, who leads the Royal Challengers Bangalore, was also retained by his franchise after scoring 468 runs in his 16 IPL games.

Proteas batter Quinton de Kock was the highest-scoring South African in the IPL as he finished as the third-highest scorer, making 508 runs in 15 games.

Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada was retained by the Punjab Kings after taking 23 wickets in 13 IPL games at an average of 17.65.

Meanwhile, Rassie van der Dussen and Corbin Bosch were released from the Rajasthan Royals.

In other news, the biggest surprise was Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings letting go of their skippers, Kane Williamson and Mayank Agarwal respectively.

The IPL 2023 mini-auction will take place in Kochi on 23 December.
