The Blues travelled south having wrapped up the title after 35 games, beating Chelsea and drawing at Brighton in their two games since their status as champions was confirmed.

City's squad did not include the likes of Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne and Ruben Dias. The game looked set to end 0-0 but Brentford struck late on through Ethan Pinnock to inflict a first league defeat on City since January.
