Brendan Rodgers to 'reset everything' as Leicester City begin pre-season training

Leicester City’s return to Seagrave for the start of pre-season training allows manager Brendan Rodgers to “reset everything” and recreate the atmosphere of his first full season at the club.

The first batch of City’s senior squad arrive at the club’s training base on Monday after the conclusion of their summer breaks and ahead of the new Premier League campaign. The City stars who did not represent their countries this month are among those expected to be present.

For the first time since Rodgers’ maiden full campaign in 2019-20, City will not have European football in their schedule. With more rest between matches, this coming season is a “holiday” for the players, Rodgers has said.

But the manager is hoping to put that to good use, spending more time on the training pitch and improving the club’s domestic fortunes. That is needed, with the eighth-placed finish perhaps overshadowing the drop in performance level last season.

In Rodgers’ first full season, City pushed for a Champions League place, narrowly falling short at the end of the campaign, while also setting a new club record of eight consecutive top-flight wins, a run that included some of the best football of the Northern Irishman’s tenure. Rodgers is looking to rebuild the mood from that season.

“It’s the only upside to not being in Europe, that you do get the chance to go again,” he said just before City broke up for the summer. “It’s similar to when I first came in. You’ve got that great body of work you can put in place and reset everything, including the behaviours off the pitch. That structure is important.
