Brendan Rodgers raids Rangers for key Leicester City appointment

Leicester City are closing in on the appointment of Rangers’ doctor, Mark Waller, according to reports.

The summer break is likely to see City active in the transfer window as Brendan Rodgers looks to complete a ‘refresh’ of his squad. But it seems that additions could also be made to the backroom staff too.

As reported by the Telegraph’s John Percy, City have agreed compensation with Rangers for the doctor, in a move that is seen as a ‘real coup.’ “Bit of #lcfc transfer news (sort of): Leicester are appointing #Rangers doctor Mark Waller to a similar position after agreeing compensation,” he wrote on Twitter.

“Dr Waller has previously worked with the Eng u21s, Liverpool & Villa, and his appointment is regarded as a huge coup ahead of next season.”

Waller’s appointment will see him replace the outgoing Bryan English, who is leaving the club this summer after the expiry of his contract. English replaced long-serving Dave Rennie in the position two seasons ago.

City have had more than their fair share of injury worries over the last season with a number of key players unavailable through the campaign. It will be hoped that the appointment will change City’s luck in that department.

City are also on the lookout for a head of recruitment after the departure of Lee Congerton, who joined Italian side Atalanta earlier this year. It is reported that Southampton’s Martyn Glover has been lined up to take the vacant position, but he is yet to make the switch to the King Power Stadium.

It means that Rodgers will be working with director of football Jon Rudkin as well as members of the technical scouting team during the recruitment process over the summer transfer window.
