Brendan Rodgers makes Liverpool claim after Leicester City humiliation

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers says his team must show both hunger and fight in Thursday's Premier League clash with Liverpool.

Leicester bowed out of the FA Cup last weekend, suffering a 4-1 drubbing at the hands of Championship side Nottingham Forest.

Having already beaten Jurgen Klopp's team already this season, however, the Foxes will be looking to complete a domestic double over the Reds, their first since the 1998/99 season.

With Liverpool aiming to close the gap on league leaders Manchester City on Thursday evening, Rodgers expects a tough test at his former club.

“We’re playing against a top team against with top players, you have to run, to work, you have to take opportunities, and then get a bit of luck. Let’s see if we can perform to a much higher level than we did at the weekend,'' began the 49-year-old.

''It’s the toughest game you could have in the wake of such a result. We showed great spirit the last time we played, so I know that is there. We need to show hunger and fight.”

With Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both involved in Sunday's AFCON final in Cameroon, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has suggested the latter could feature against Leicester, with the former, however, set to miss out.

Entering into the business end of the 21/22 campaign, Liverpool will be hoping to pressurise runaway leaders Man City, with Pep Guardiola's side so far on track to retain their Premier League title.
