Brendan Rodgers admits Celtic are set for a transfer deadline day dash for a loan star striker.
The Hoops boss is determined to add a frontman to this squad following the £10m departure of Kyogo, and he would also like a left back and another winger. Celts have been frustrated in their pursuit of £14m Brondby hitman Mathias Kvistgaarden and Seville’s Kelechi Iheanacho but remain in the hunt for £8m rated Slovan Bratislava frontman David Strelec and £7m Sarpsborg wide man Sondre Orjasaeter.
Rodgers is chasing several other targets but admitted it could be a short-term deal with the clock ticking ahead of the window slamming shut at 11pm on Monday night. He said: “I would think so. I think that to get the one that we would want for that longer term, if it's not there, then I don't want to just bring in anyone just for the sake of it. I'll always look from within.
“There's no point in bringing in someone if they're not the right fit. So it might be more down that route, but we'll wait and see what the evening brings.”
Celtic striker Adam Idah backed up his double against Aston Villa with another goal in yesterday’s 3-1 win at Motherwell – where returning Jota notched on his second debut for the club. But Rodgers insisted he’s still determined to bolster his frontline following Kyogo’s exit.
He said: “Yes, it’s competition. We've got to this point in the season. Why? Because the squad has been really competitive. We can bring players in that can do well. Like we can take Nicolas Kuhn off, put Jota in to the game, which keeps the level of the game up.
“We play so many games. And how we want to play takes a lot of work, a lot of intense work. My feeling was always once Kyogo was gone, was to have someone else come in. So
