Brendan Rodgers and Celtic met with Green Brigade fury as 'good deal of anger' unleashed after St Johnstone stalemate

The Green Brigade reportedly unleashed "a good deal of anger" on Brendan Rodgers and the Celtic players after the draw with St Johnstone.

The Scottish champions dropped their first points of the Premiership campaign after being held to a goalless draw at home by the Perth side just days after they were sent crashing out of the Viaplay Cup by Kilmarnock. Steven MacLean's took the morale-boosting result from Celtic Park after winless start to the season amid concerns over the new campaign after a disastrous League Cup capaign which saw them thumped by Stirling.

And the BBC report that the Celtic ultras were left incensed by the performance with around "100 fans or so" directing anger at the players and boss as they applauded the support who stayed to the end of the lacklustre 90 minutes. Influential fan group the Green Brigade have been vocal in their disappointment at the return of Rodgers with the supporters being unwilling to forgive Rodgers for joining Leicester City in 2019.

BBC reporter Alasdair Lamont told BBC Sportsound: "I just watched the Celtic manager and players do what you might normally call a lap of honour in going round the Celtic Park playing surface and clapping the fans.

"When they go to the area where the Green Brigade stand I would say they were met with a good deal of anger from about 100 or so fans - I guess most of that directed at the manager. If you remember some sections of the support weren't enamoured with the appointment of Brendan Rodgers and it was certainly felt this afternoon after they failed to clinch all three points."
