BREAKING: SIX-MILE queues on M6 near Greater Manchester following crash - latest updates

Drivers are facing huge queues on the M6 near Greater Manchester following a crash involving multiple vehicles. National Highways says motorists are facing six miles of 'slow moving traffic' on the southbound carriageway, between junctions 19 at Knutsford and 18 at Middlewich, in Cheshire.

Highways officers are currently at the scene. One lane is currently closed following the crash.

A spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote on X (formerly Twitter): "1 lane (of 4) is closed on the #M6 southbound in #Cheshire between J19 (#Tabley) and J18 (#HolmesChapel) due a multi-vehicle collision. Our Traffic Officers are on scene and recovery has been arranged.

"There's a 20 minute delay on approach with 6 miles of slow moving traffic." Traffic is tailing back to junction 20 for the M56, according to the Inrix traffic monitoring system.
