BREAKING: Residents told 'keep your windows and doors shut' as crews tackle fire - latest updates

People are being urged to keep their windows closed while crews deal with a major fire. Bolton residents are waking up to a fire on Mallison Street this morning (August 16).

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service says it is currently dealing with a blaze at an industrial unit. Locals are being warned to take precaution while crews are at the scene.

A spokesperson for the fire service tweeted: "Our crews are currently tackling a fire at a Industrial unit on Mallison Street, Bolton. Please close your windows and doors if you live nearby.

"Please try to avoid the area if possible." Crews have been at the scene for more than six hours.

Three fire engines were called out shortly after midnight. It is not currently known how long fire crews will remain at the scene or the cause of the fire.

Crews have been dealing with a major fire at the scene since midnight.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service said:

“Just after 12am this morning (Wednesday, August 16), three fire engines from Bolton North and Bolton Central fire station were called to reports of a fire involving an industrial unit on Mallison Street, Bolton.

“Crews arrived quickly at the scene.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, one angle grinder, a chimney nozzle, a lance, dammit mats and a thermal imaging camera to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters are currently at the scene and have been in attendance for around six hours.”
