Gareth Staples-Jones shared news of the incident on social media. He posted: "Major incident stand lane - road closed. Ongoing incident, can’t comment on details please avoid using stand lane for the time being. Police, ambulances and Air Ambulance on scene."

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, Mr Staples-Jones said he has been informed the incident involved a young boy who was hit by a vehicle. Paramedics and police remain at the scene, with the road cordoned off.

There is heavy traffic reported in the area, with people being advised to avoid roads near the incident where possible.
