BREAKING: Piccadilly Gardens taped off by police amid 'report of a fight' with forensics at scene and man suffering head wound taken to hospital - latest updates

A section of Piccadilly Gardens has been taped off by police this morning after an incident.

Pictures taken at the scene in the city centre show a cordon in place near to the bus station. Several police officers are at the scene, as well as forensic investigators.

Evidence markers have been placed on the ground within the police tape. One forensic officer was spotted taking photos at the scene.

The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed at this stage. The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for details.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said:

"We were called shortly after 10.20pm on Monday 25 April to a report of a fight at Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester.

"A man in his 30s was taken to hospital for treatment to a head wound. He was discharged earlier today.

"No arrests have been made and an investigation is underway.

"Anyone with information should report it to us online via our LiveChat facility, if able, or by calling 101 quoting incident 3200 of 25/04/2022.

"Details can be passed anonymously to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
