BREAKING: Manchester street taped off with police and ambulances at the scene - updates

Emergency services have descended on a busy east Manchester road following an incident this afternoon. Several ambulances are in attendance at Ashton Old Road, in Openshaw.

A number of police vehicles are at the scene and a cordon is in place. An area of pavement can be seen taped off by the side of the major road with a blue forensic tent also in place.

Both marked and unmarked police cars have also stopped on Ashton Old Road. The Manchester Evening News understands a person has been treated by paramedics at the scene.

An air ambulance has also been seen in the area by eyewitnesses. Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police and North West Ambulance Service have both been approached for comment.
