BREAKING Man United given instant Amad penalty verdict after VAR confirm referee decision

Former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson believes Manchester United were denied a clear penalty during the first half of their clash against Brighton & Hove Albion. Amad went down in the Seagulls' penalty area after contact from Brighton's Maxim De Cuyper, but no spot-kick was awarded.

Ruben Amorim's side are chasing a third straight victory after wins over Sunderland and Liverpool. The 2-1 victory at Anfield last weekend was their first back-to-back win in the Premier League under their Portuguese head coach.

But there was frustration in the first half at Old Trafford against Fabian Hurzelear's team after the Reds were denied a penalty. The decision from referee Anthony Taylor not to award the spot-kick was slammed by Robinson.

"How that's not been given I do not know," he told BBC Radio 5 Live. "That should be a penalty to Manchester United.

"That's a mistake from the referee. I'm not having it at all [there being a touch on the ball by Maxim De Cuyper]."

Taylor's verdict at M16 was backed by VAR. A statement from the Premier League's Match Centre account on social media platform X, read: "The referee’s call of no penalty to Manchester United was checked and confirmed by VAR – with it deemed that De Cuyper played the ball."

The decision perhaps inspired Amorim's side into action, with Matheus Cunha opening the scoring moments later for United. It was the first goal for him since joining the Reds from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer.

United then went on to double their lead before half-time with a deflected effort from Casemiro giving them breathing room.
