BREAKING: Boy, 17, arrested in murder probe as woman dies after being assaulted outside her house

A 17-year-old boy has been arrested after detectives launched a murder investigation following the death of a woman in Warrington on Tuesday morning (August 29).

Police and paramedics were called to the scene on Phoenix Place at around 9.40am, following reports of a 'domestic incident.' A woman, aged 48, had been 'seriously assaulted' outside her home and was pronounced dead at the scene.

An investigation was launched and a teenage boy, aged 17, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody to be questioned by detectives. Her next of kin are being supported by officers.

Detective Superintendent Jon Betts, of Warrington Local Policing Unit, said: “I would like to reassure residents that this is believed to be an isolated incident and there is no risk to the wider community.

"A 17-year-old boy has been arrested and he is being held in police custody. There is currently an increased police presence in the local area, and I would urge anyone with any concerns to speak to an officer.

"As part our ongoing enquiries I would like to hear from anyone who was in the Phoenix Place area between 9.30am and 9.45am and believes they may have witnessed the incident. The same goes for anyone with any video or dashcam footage.”

Anyone with any information or footage is asked to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting IML 1632153 or via: https://www.cheshire.police.uk/tell-us .
