BREAKING Boy, 12, rushed to hospital and two more injured after collision on major road

A 12-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital following a collision on a busy road between Ashton and Oldham. Police closed off Ashton Road at Bardsley Bridge, near Daisy Nook, for around two hours.

The incident occurred this morning (March 17). Emergency services raced out to the scene having been called out shortly after 9am.

Paramedics took a schoolboy to hospital by ambulance following the collision. Two other people were checked over at the scene.

A spokesperson for North West Ambulance Service said: "We have taken a 12-year-old boy to hospital following an RTC. Two other patients were assessed at the scene. We received a 999 call at 09.05."

Further details on the nature of the collision are yet to be confirmed. Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.

Transport bosses urged members of the public to find alternative routes as the A627 Ashton Road/Oldham Road was shut off for two hours from around 9.30am, while bus services were affected.

A Transport for Greater Manchester spokesperson wrote on Twitter: "Due to a collision the A627 Ashton Road is closed in both directions at the junction with Park Bridge Road.

"First Manchester 409 services are diverting via Lees Road both ways. Diversion for cars via Daisy Nook. Please plan ahead. Allow extra travel time."
