BREAKING: Area in Piccadilly Gardens taped off by police - latest updates
Part of Piccadilly Gardens has been cordoned off by police this morning after a man was assaulted in the early hours.
According to eyewitnesses, an area of the gardens between the bus station and the grass has been taped off. Officers are stationed at the scene.

Police said the man was attacked at around 3am. He was taken to hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said:
“Police were called to Piccadilly Gardens at around 03.00am on Tuesday 6 September 2022, to reports of a male who had been assaulted.
“NWAS attended and the victim was taken to hospital for treatment on his injuries, which are not thought to be life-threatening.
“A scene is currently in place and enquiries are ongoing.”
According to eyewitnesses, the area taped off is between the main station and main grass area in the gardens.
This area is separated by an walkway under the wall.
