Brazil physio provides 'optimistic' injury update for Liverpool's Fabinho

Fabinho looks set to miss the next three Liverpool games, but there is optimism that he will be fit again in time for the Champions League final, according to Brazil’s physio Fabio Mahseredjian.

The midfielder limped out of the 2-1 win over Aston Villa on Tuesday night with an apparent hamstring injury.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp could not tell how bad the problem was at the time, but knew that it was likely to mean a period of time on the sidelines for the Brazilian.

‘That’s a massive problem,’ said the German at Villa Park. ‘That’s a big blow for us. I don’t know (how bad), hopefully not that bad, but I don’t know.’

Fabinho has been called up for the Brazil squad, with games next month against South Korea, Japan and Argentina and Mahseredjian expects the 28-year-old to be fine for those games and could still make the Champions League final against Real Madrid on 28 May.

‘We don’t have all the information yet, but we are optimistic that he will reach the Champions League final,’ Mahseredjian said, via Goal.

It is still a big blow for Liverpool who will be without Fabinho for the FA Cup final against Chelsea on Saturday and as they try and pip Manchester City to the Premier League title in their remaining two league games.

Klopp’s side go to Southampton on Tuesday (17 May) before hosting Wolves (22 May) in their remaining Premier League matches, before taking on Real Madrid in Paris.
