Brands BSB: Kennedy demolishes Supersport pack in race one

Jack Kennedy dominated proceedings in the Quattro Group British Supersport Championship Sprint race at Brands Hatch on Saturday afternoon with the Mar-Train Racing Yamaha rider coming home a commanding eight seconds clear of Harry Truelove (Appleyard Macadam Yamaha) and Luke Stapleford (Gearlink Kawasaki).

The win extended Kennedy’s championship lead to 78 points. The Dubliner grabbed the holeshot but behind him there was carnage as Eugene McManus (Completely Motorbikes/Affinity Kawasaki) and Luke Jones (Highsparks/Track Demons Ducati) tangled and crashed out spectacularly. With the field split slightly, Kennedy got his head down and, at one stage, was lapping more than a second quicker than the rest of the field but whilst he disappeared into the distance, Truelove and Stapleford battled all the way to the end. Stapleford had the edge going into the final lap but Truelove turned the tables and found a way by to claim the runners-up spot and his best position of the season so far. Stapleford had to settle for third with fourth going to Jack Scott after a great ride on his Kovara Projects/RS Racing GP2 machine. Bradley Perie on the second Appleyard machine had been in contention for a podium position but dropped back to finish fifth with Lee Johnston (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) making his return to racing, after the eye issues that had blighted him at the TT, in sixth. Mason Law, another returnee, finished a good seventh on the Astro-JJR Triumph, with Johnston’s team-mate Damon Rees eighth, Korie McGreevey (Go Racing/SGR) ninth – the second GP2 rider home – and Rhys Irwin on the second Astro machine.
