Brands BSB: Bridewell ‘needs three wins and some luck…’

Tommy Bridewell reckons he needs three wins and a healthy dose of luck to snatch the 2022 Bennetts British Superbike title from under the nose of Brad Ray.

Bridewell heads into the final round holding third in the overall championship standings, a single point adrift of Glenn Irwin ahead of him, but knowing that Bradley Ray has a comfortable margin ahead of the decisive three races this weekend.

“I go to the last round this weekend fully focused and fully hopeful that anything can happen. I don’t sit back and think Brad has one hand on the trophy and that is that, I still believe, work and train the same as I always do. You have to as a racer and we have seen things change in the past,” said Bridewell.

“I am still driven and I want to fight for the best result we can. Brands Hatch is such an iconic circuit and it is only right the season ends here. In my early days of racing, it was never one of my favourite tracks, but as I have got older it has really clicked for me and I would probably say it is one of my favourite tracks in the UK now if I am honest. I have had good results there, but I have never had a race win so that is on the to-do list for this weekend.

I need a lot of luck with the championship and I need to win all three races, the battle with Glenn for second in the championship, you need to box a little bit smarter if you are driven to finish second in the standings – which obviously I am.

“To be honest I admire the way Glenn rides - he never gives up and also his determination as a racer. I am sure it would also be vice-versa. I am sure if you said the same to Glenn which one person would you not want to go head-to-head with, it would probably be someone like myself, because I will near pull the bars off so
