Boy, 4, rushed to hospital with serious injuries in vicious dog attack

A young boy was rushed to hospital after suffering serious injuries in a vicious dog attack yesterday. A 31-year-old woman has also been arrested in connection with the incident.

Merseyside Police were called to reports of the attack at Wellesbourne Place in Norris Green, Liverpool on Saturday (August 14). Enquiries suggested the four-year-old boy went to visit a friend's house when he was attacked by a bull mastiff-type dog.

It is believed a neighbour who saw the incident stepped in and managed to fight the dog off the boy to get him to safety. He suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital where he remains in a serious but stable condition.

The dog has since been seized, reports the ECHO. A woman from Norris Green was arrested on suspicion of being in possession of a dangerously out-of-control dog. She remains at a police station where she will be interviewed by officers.

Detective Inspector Chris Hawitt, said: “This incident has left a young child with serious injuries to his face and head, and will have been an extremely distressing incident for all who witnessed it. I would like to commend the neighbour whose quick thinking and selfless swift actions have probably saved the life of this young boy, who has suffered life changing injuries.

“Our enquiries into the full circumstances of the incident are ongoing, and we have seized the dog for the safety of the community and to establish its breed. We have a dedicated sergeant
