Boy, 13, left with 'fractured rib' and 'swollen foot' after reports he was hit by white van

A teen from Leigh reportedly suffered a fractured rib after he was hit by a white van on his way to school. Tommy Gordon-Culshaw, 13, has been left with a fractured rib among other injuries after the smash on Green Lane on Thursday morning just after 8.30 am.

His mother Krystle, 30, says Tommy has been left with a swollen hip, a swollen and bruised foot and an injury to his rib. Speaking to the MEN, the mum-of-two says Tommy has been bed ridden since the incident and is 'fed up of being in pain'.

She said: "As he was getting off at his stop by the school he had gone in front of the bus to cross the road and a van had overtaken the bus and hit Tommy. He's got a snapped collar bone, fractured rib and his foot is now three times the size it should be.

"The hospital said that it was consistent with being run over, but he hasn't broken anything. He's pretty shaken up and he's just fed up of being in pain. He says he doesn't remember any of it, it all happened so fast."

Krystle says it will take around six weeks for Tommy to recover. She is urging anyone with information to come forward. Speaking to the MEN, she said: "It's happened a few times before this as well, something needs doing."

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
