Bournemouth close in on signing Barcelona goalkeeper Neto with the veteran set to join this weekend

Bournemouth are on the verge of completing the signing of Barcelona goalkeeper Neto, DorsetLive understands, with the veteran said to be travelling to England to undergo his medical.

Provided there are no last-minute hitches, Neto will become Scott Parker's fourth signing of the summer window. It is thought the 33-year-old will join on a one-year deal, providing stern competition for current first-choice stopper Mark Travers.

The Cherries' head coach has made clear his desire for a new option between the sticks, with No 2 choice Will Dennis, who progressed through the club's academy system, lacking in match action at the highest level.

Keeper Neto has a wealth of experience in elite football after stints with Valencia, Juventus and Fiorentina.

However, he made just four appearances in Catalonia last season after failing to dislodge Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and notched a meagre 21 matches overall for the LaLiga giants.

He has played in the Champions League and Europa League during his career, and was part of the Valencia side that reached the semi-finals of the latter competition in 2018-19, although they eventually suffered defeat to Arsenal.

Neto played in the 2016 and 2017 Coppa Italia finals, winning on both occasions against AC Milan and Lazio respectively, and also boasts two Serie A winner's medals to his name after his time in Turin.

From 260 total career appearances, Neto has conceded 269 goals and kept 91 clean sheets. He has made one international appearance for Brazil, which came in a 5-0 friendly victory against El Salvador in September 2018.
