Boubacar Kamara posts cryptic message amid Aston Villa transfer backlash

New Aston Villa signing Boubacar Kamara - labelled one of the most promising young talents in European football by Steven Gerrard - has posted a vague message on social media after sealing a free transfer from Marseille. The midfielder came in for some fierce criticism from Marseille supporters having rejected the chance to stay and play Champions League football to, in effect, join Villa who finished 14th in the Premier League last season.

“You just made a fool of yourself with the people of Marseille,” one OM supporter posted, while another said: “I didn’t understand this choice either, prefer to play in England than the Champions League with Marseille?”

Kamara took to Twitter late last night and, in an apparent response to those angered by his move to Villa Park, said: “When the lie takes the elevator, the truth takes the stairs. Even if it takes longer, the truth always ends up coming!”

The 22-year-old flew into Birmingham via a private jet with his wife Coralie and their two sons, Leeroy and Kingsley, before checking in at Bodymoor Heath alongside Gerrard, Johan Lange and Villa’s operations manager Matt Bennett.

Kamara, meanwhile, soon took to Instagram to post an emotional farewell to boyhood club Marseille, and said: "The day before yesterday was my last match with these colours that I have been wearing since I was 5 years old. I don't know if there's a nice way to say goodbye. But I could not spoil the atmosphere of this precious victory and qualification in Champions League.

"It has been the work of a season, for all my teammates, my coach and his staff as well as for you supporters - "the 12th man" - with your unwavering support, always there to push us no matter what. So now I can say a huge THANK YOU and wish
