'Botched dental work left me struggling to SEE - I had to be rushed to hospital'

A man whose dodgy dental work left him struggling to see has spoken out about his nightmare.

Kieran Wilson, from Sale, had attended the same dental practice for years without any issues. The 30-year-old had undergone several treatments there including fillings, root canal treatment and a tooth extraction.

But in 2020, the insurance consultant said he began experiencing pain and swelling in his mouth. Due to Covid restrictions at the time, Kieran was prescribed antibiotics over the phone which appeared to help his symptoms, he said.

Unknown to him at the time, there was a deep-rooted infection developing in one of his teeth. Kieran said he later woke up with his face swollen 'like a balloon' and was rushed to hospital. "It got to the point where I was struggling to see, which was really frightening," he added.

"I attended an emergency appointment at A&E and was put on an IV drip and told I needed to go to the dentist as soon as possible to get the infection treated. They gave me antibiotics and the swelling decreased over the next few days, but it didn’t explain why it had happened."

As his pain continued, Kieran decided to contact the Dental Law Partnership in 2021. Further analysis of his records revealed a vast catalogue of errors in the treatments he had received, the organisation claims.

There was a failure to diagnose and treat decay in a number of teeth, it is claimed. An unsatisfactory tooth extraction in which the tooth was not removed in its entirety was carried out, it is also claimed.
