Bonnet ripped off in dramatic crash between police vehicle and car on busy main road
The bonnet of a car was ripped off after it was involved in a major smash with a police car in Walkden on Thursday (December 19).
Emergency services blocked Bolton Road, beside the Tesco Extra supermarket after the crash at around 3.15pm. A witness claimed the police vehicle collided with the other car as it was pulling out of Whittle Street.
Other police vehicles then responded to the incident, with officers seen guiding motorists away from the scene. The police car involved also appeared to have a badly damaged bonnet.
One witness who saw the collision as she went to the shop with her daughter, said: "The police crashed into them. They were pulling out of Whittle Street as police were driving down Bolton Road.
"Traffic was terrible. There were loads of damaged car parts around, and when I come back up to go back home at 6pm it was all still there."
Pictures showed the white Dacia vehicle, which was blocking the left lane, after having its bonnet torn off. Parts of the car were seen strewn over the road.
Further details about the collision have not been confirmed. Greater Manchester Police have been approached for details.
