Bomb squad LIVE as fire crews, police and ambulances called to Stockport street

A bomb disposal team has been called to a street in Stockport.

The response follows the discovery of an item believed to be an unexploded grenade, the MEN understands. Fire crews, police and paramedics are also at the scene.

The incident centers around Demmings Road, Cheadle, off Councillor Lane.

A witness at the scene has just heard the controlled explosion of the device take place nearby to the scene.

They said they heard a 'huge bang'. It is thought bomb disposal units carried out the procedure on an unexploded grenade.

Police cordoned off a field nearby.

A cordon has been set up by officers on a field near Kelsall Road ahead of a 'controlled explosion' being carried out.

The M.E.N understands a 'controlled explosion' will be carried out shortly.

It follows reports that a grenade had been found inside a property.
