Bolton Wanderers stance on negotiations with out of contract players in summer transfer window

Bolton Wanderers will hold off talks with players out of contract this summer for as long as possible over the uncertainty of how the season will ultimately turn out.

Wanderers sat 10th in the League One table prior to last night's action in the division and are making a late charge for the play-offs.

Ian Evatt's side have 11 games left of their campaign and have little margin for error if they are to give themselves a decent chance of making the top six by the end of April.

This summer, comings and goings are expected at Wanderers, though it is not yet confirmed they will be in League One next season or if they are able to reach the Championship via the play-offs.

In terms of players out of contract this summer, Wanderers do not have too many whose deals expire in a few months time.

Alex Baptiste, Andrew Tutte, Nathan Delfouneso, Liam Edwards, Liam Gordon and Reiss Greenidge all have contracts which run out at the end of June.

Greenidge is out on loan at Barnet and his Bolton career has essentially come to an end with the Bees having the option to make the move permanent this summer.

Delfouneso is currently out on loan at League Two Bradford City, with Edwards at non-league side Southport.

Evatt admits that it is too early at this stage to be discussing new deals with out of contract players due to the uncertainties as the season approaches its climax.

But the Bolton boss admits that big decisions are coming this summer as Wanderers move forwards in a positive direction, with the choices to be held off for as long as possible.
