Bolton's Ian Evatt on touchline discipline & makes Tuchel-Conte reference ahead of Morecambe ban

Ian Evatt says he does not want to lose a piece of himself with his discipline but is trying to improve it after being sent to the stands in Bolton Wanderers' draw versus Port Vale but believes emotions in football can boil over as was shown over the weekend in the Premier League.

The Wanderers boss was sent off in the tunnel by referee Ross Joyce at half-time of the goalless draw at Vale Park. It means he is set to not be on the touchline this evening for the clash against Morecambe as a result.

Evatt did not go into the details of the nature of his discussion with Joyce any further, but believes there is a fine line with discipline. Touchline scenes over the weekend between Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur bosses Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte is an example of this boiling over.

Evatt admits a line must be drawn which cannot be to the detriment of the team, as his players need him on the touchline to advise and help them. But the Bolton boss is still working to improve and work on his own discipline on the touchline in what is an emotional sport.

He said: “I am disappointed. There were obvious and valid reasons behind the way I reacted as I did – and I don’t need to discuss them right now – but it is a fine line.

“I don’t want to lose a piece of myself. I am emotional, I do care and I do want to win. And you saw it with Tuchel and Conte at the weekend, two magnificent coaches, but it can boil over because everyone wants the best for their team.

“There does have to be a line, though, and it can’t be to the detriment of the team. And me not being on the touchline is not helping my team. They need me there.
