Bok mentor Nienaber hints at tried and tested for Wales series

Springbok coach Jacques Nienaber said any changes they'll make from a selection perspective would be guided by results and injuries.

The Springboks, who are just awaiting a small contingent of players who have French Top 14 final duty this coming weekend, are in camp getting ready for the inbound series against Wayne Pivac's charges.

The three Tests will take place at Loftus Versfeld, the Free State Stadium, and the Cape Town Stadium in the first three weekends of July.

Nienaber said on Tuesday at a virtual media gathering they had their plans in place for the year, but they'll see them tread very carefully with how they navigate them.

"We've got a plan with the players and hopefully, we'll have three South Africa A games coming up in November," Nienaber said.

"That'll give us an opportunity to expand and be creative in terms of team selection, but we also have a plan that's worked out for the year in terms of when and where to play players.

"That plan can and will change according to results and injuries. If you pick up two injuries in a position, then a certain player may end up starting.

"That's something we'll monitor closely and it's a balancing act that we need to get right. If there's a chance to expose players to the highest level, then we will.

"However, that'll be determined by the momentum we build."

Wales haven't won any of the 10 Tests they've played in South Africa, with their closest result being a 31-30 defeat at the Mbombela Stadium in 2014.

They've had the better of the Springboks in Cardiff in recent years, but their Six Nations return of one win in five matches was uninspiring.

One of those losses included a reverse against Italy at home, but Nienaber is still wary of the threat they pose.
