Bok flyer Arendse chuffed with Genoa cruise: I was happy we could run a bit

Springbok winger Kurt-Lee Arendse battled to contain his joy with how their best-laid plans came together in the 63-21 win against Italy in Genoa on Saturday.

Arendse, who won the man of the match award for his two tries and his generally industrious performance, scored with what was his first touch of the game in the second minute.

How the Boks moved the ball wide with intent early in the game set out their stall, even though the hosts were combative in the first half.

The attritional ways of the first stanza took their toll in the second 40 as the Boks ran in 45 points to blow away the hosts.

Arendse said they were happy to bounce back in the manner that they did after two narrow defeats against Ireland and France on the previous weekends.

"I really did, and the plan was to strike, so we executed the plan well, but I'm just glad that we could run a bit and enjoy the game," Arendse said.

"The game was really important for us as we went to the match on the back of two losses, but we've bounced back and learned from the two games we lost.

"We're happy with the win and the lessons from the two games we didn't win."

The Springbok back three of Arendse, Cheslin Kolbe, and Willie le Roux purred with intent throughout the 80 minutes.

Even when Kolbe cried off with what looked to be a hamstring strain in the 46th minute, no venom was lost as Manie Libbok's entrance at 10 saw Damian Willemse move to wing with devastating effect.

Le Roux was the only member of the back three who didn't score, but his playmaking importance wasn't lost on Arendse.
