"Boehly is looking to get rid of him" – talkSPORT reporter drops Chelsea claim on £272k-p/w star

Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is looking to sell Timo Werner this summer, according to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook.

Boehly has made a bright start to his Stamford Bridge tenure by delivering Thomas Tuchel both Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly, although Crook believes the American businessman is hoping to offload some of the Blues’ top earners.

Despite welcoming two high-profile arrivals, it’s been a frustrating summer for Chelsea, who have missed out on signing Raphinha and Jules Kounde, while they’ve seen Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger leave for Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively.

Before the Blues make further additions, they might need to move on some players, though, with Werner one of those who’s up for sale.

According to Football.London, Chelsea are open to offers for the Germany international, who’s endured a torrid time on the pitch since making the £45m move from Leipzig two years ago.

Werner has been paid £272,000 per-week at Stamford Bridge, but the forward has been unable to justify those significant wages, with just 10 goals in 56 Premier League games.

Having failed to live up to expectations during his time in English football, Crook reckons that Werner’s departure could kick off a max exodus of departures at Chelsea.

He told GIVEMESPORT: “I think Boehly is looking to get rid of him, along with a lot of the high earners.

“I think Boehly would rather keep players like Levi Colwill and Armando Broja and build for the future and cash in on people like Werner, [Callum Hudson Odoi], who haven’t lived up to expectations, [Ross] Barkley and maybe even N’Golo Kante.”
