Body found in Tameside town with cordon put in place

A police scene was in place in Tameside after a man was found dead.

Police officers and paramedics were called to the scene off Ashton Street in the Dukinfield area to reports of 'concern for welfare' for a person at around 10.15am today (Thursday). Sadly, the body of the man was discovered.

He is believed to be aged in his 40s, Greater Manchester Police said, though no further details about him have been released at this stage. The force said there is not believed to be a 'wider risk to the public'.

A cordon was put in place in the area with enquiries ongoing on the scene. In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: "At 10:15am this morning (Thursday 3 October) we were called to Ashton Street, Dukinfield, to reports of concern for welfare.

"Emergency services attended and sadly discovered the body of a man believed to be in his 40s. We do not believe there is a risk to the wider public. A scene is in place and enquiries are ongoing."
