Body found in search for woman who went missing walking dog in Snowdonia

A body has been found in the search of a woman who went missing in Snowdonia.

Ausra Plungiene, 56, from Prestatyn, North Wales, is understood to have last been seen on Tuesday after taking her dog, Eyora, out for a walk at about 10.30am before failing to return home. A search across Eryri national park was coordinated after reports of the disappearance came flooding in.

Her car was found in a remote car park in the Rown area in the early hours of Wednesday, North Wales Police said. Meanwhile, on Thursday, mountain rescue team members uncovered a woman's body near Yr Aryg in the Carneddau mountain range, a force spokesman said.

Formal identification is yet to take place. Superintendent Owain Llewelyn said: "I would like to offer my thanks to all involved in the search for Ausra, in what have been extremely difficult weather conditions.

"Finally, I would appeal for Ausra's family to be afforded some privacy during the coming days."

Ms Plungiene's daughter begged for help on Wednesday in a public appearance. Toma Plungauite Lamb said: "My mum is the most beautiful soul, who would do anything for anyone. So I’m asking for anyone with any information to come forward to bring our mummy home."
