Blow for Tipp as Paddy Cadell suffers season-ending cruciate injury

Tipperary's Paddy Cadell has been ruled out of the 2023 championship with a cruciate ligament injury, while Cathal Barrett and Niall O’Meara will be sidelined for the coming weeks.

Cadell suffered the injury to his left knee in the defeat of Kilkenny last weekend in the Allianz hurling league, and the JK Bracken's man has been ruled out for the rest of the year.

Manager Liam Cahill will be without experienced defender Barrett for the remainder of the league, and possibly the early rounds of the Munster championship.

The two-time All-Star collided with one of his own players in the six-point victory over the Cats, which has resulted in a displaced fracture to the scapula.

After three weeks in a sling he will begin his rehabilitation and is expected to be out for between 10-12 weeks.

The Premier County’s provincial campaign commences with a trip to Ennis in just over nine weeks’ time.

The other injury update concerns Niall O’Meara. The 30-year-old picked up a groin injury in training, with a scan confirming a tear of the adductor origin.

Tipperary are hopeful he will begin full training in six to seven weeks, meaning he is up against it to feature in the league again, with a final, should Tipp make it that far, just over six weeks away.
