Blow for Leeds as ‘humble’ Whites player faces ‘long period’ out after Phil Hay shared news

Leeds United youngster Mateusz Bogusz has now undergone surgery after suffering a ‘serious knee injury’ during his loan spell at Ibiza.

The 20-year-old joined the Spanish outfit on a temporary basis last summer, with first-team opportunities looking limited at Elland Road and having spent last season on loan at Logrones.

Bogusz was performing well for the Segunda Division club, scoring four goals and providing seven assists in 20 games, but a horrible knee injury last month put paid to his season.

Phil Hay shared news at the time that an operation would likely be required, and now another update has emerged regarding the situation.

According to AS [via Sport Witness], the Pole has finally ‘undergone surgery’ on the injury and faces a ‘long period’ on the sidelines after a successful procedure.

Bogusz has made three appearances for Leeds but his current deal expires in the summer of 2023, so injury comes right in the period the club will be deciding whether to extend his stay or cash in.

Bogusz’s injury is a huge blow, given the severity of it, and the hope is that he will be able to return the same player, with ACL problems often proving hugely troublesome.

With just over a year left on his current contract, it does raise question marks over the midfielder’s long-term future at Leeds, with so many options already ahead of him in the pecking order.

The situation will likely become clearer once Bogusz has completed his recovery but the hope is that he returns as good as ever, potentially extending his stay before enjoying another loan spell next season.

Having been described as ‘humble’ by Mateusz Klich, you can only hope this isn’t damaging to the youngster’s career.
