Finn Harps have been hit with a major injury blow after captain Dave Webster was ruled out for the rest of the season because of a serious knee injury.
Webster was stretchered from the pitch during Harps' 2-2 draw with Bohemians in Dalymount Park, going down unchallenged and in significant pain.
Harps were awaiting the result of a scan which confirmed ligament damage and will result in several months on the sidelines.
Webster is in his third season with Harps, establishing himself as a talisman for the Donegal outfit with over 50 appearances.
The former Shamrock Rovers and St Patrick’s Athletic player commutes from Dublin to play with Ollie Horgan’s side and his loss will be felt strongly.
Harps have just one victory in 12 matches and sit in ninth place in the Premier Division, five points from safety, with just UCD behind them in the table.
They face a crucial match with Shelbourne - the only side they have beaten this season - and a defeat could see them fall further behind in the table.
Fellow experienced player Ryan Connolly was forced off against Sligo Rovers last week and missed the 2-0 loss against St Patrick’s Athletic.
Harps have a drastically changed squad this season as 11 players departed the club in the off-season, forcing Horgan to recruit from outside of Ireland, with Webster and Connolly some of the key men remaining at Finn Park.
