Blairgowrie Golf Club member Ewan Farquharson finds top form to win Perth and Kinross matchplay title

Ewan Farquharson found some of his best golf of the season to be crowned Perth and Kinross matchplay champion.

The Blairgowrie member secured the trophy on Sunday thanks to a 3&2 victory against Kinross Golf Club’s Cameron Wallace in the final played at Strathmore.

Farquharson nailed five birdies and an eagle in the showdown match to win the title for the second time.

“It was two big wins for Cameron in the earlier rounds and I’ve noticed he has been playing a few of the Scottish events this year and performed well in them,” Farquharson told the PA.

“I knew I was going to need to play well in the final if I was going to have a chance.

“I was definitely more nervous to play Cameron as there was a lot less I knew about him and his game.

Farquharson had booked his ticket to the final thanks to wins over fellow Blairgowrie members Tom McLevy in the quarter-final and David Murray in the semi-final.

“My season so far has been up and down, solid enough golf through most of the summer but in the last couple of months my scoring had dropped,” he admitted.

“I wasn’t holing anything, coupled with having a high number once a round and therefore struggling to put together a decent score.

“The quarter-final against Tom was a bit hit and miss from us both. We both made six birdies but coupled that with a few dropped shots each.

“Like a lot of my matchplay this
