Blair Spittal has been great, but can give us even more, insists Motherwell boss

Motherwell boss Stuart Kettlewell has praised Blair Spittal for his performances this season – but wants more goals from him.

Midfielder Spittal, 27, is top scorer at Fir Park with three goals this term, and netted an equaliser against Celtic on Saturday, minutes before the champions scored a clinching second.

Kettlewell has been pleased with the former Dundee United and Partick Thistle star’s displays, but reckons he can give even more, as they prepare for the trip to Livingston on Saturday

He said: “Blair has been excellent. I think you’re getting to see the best of him at this minute in time.

“I think he can still kick on, he can still convert more chances – and that starts to heap a wee bit of pressure on him, but that’s just because I believe in his quality, and I know he can offer so much in that forward area.

“But I think everybody can see the combination of all these guys in that midfield and forward area has seemed to click, to a point.

“I know we need to convert a little bit more of the chances we’ve created, but I think you can see how easy it is on the eye, and most importantly, how much they enjoy playing with each other.”

Kettlewell added: “It’s good to see Blair performing the way he is, Callum Slattery, Harry Paton, Lennon Miller, those midfield guys.

“But I think they’ve been aided at times by the likes of Theo Bair, who has had that nod recently in the forward position, to be the glue that brings all these guys together.

“Again, if we can try and keep that level of consistency with them, but if we can get a slightly better conversion rate, then I think it puts us in a good spot.”
