Blackpool defender Reece James leaves the club to sign for Sheffield Wednesday

Blackpool defender Reece James has signed for League One side Sheffield Wednesday on a season-long loan deal.

The 28-year-old dropped down the pecking order with the Seasiders last season and evidently wasn't in new Head Coach Michael Appleton's plans either. Blackpool already have James Husband and Luke Garbutt as left backs at the club, while former Chelsea loanee Dujon Sterling also filled in at left back ahead of James at points last campaign.

James will link up with former boss Darren Moore at Wednesday as they look to push for a return to the Championship having fallen short in the League One play-off semi finals last season. The full back made 19 appearances for the Seasiders last season under Critchley before the Head Coach left to join Aston Villa as Steven Gerrard's Assistant Head Coach.

James filled in at central midfield in the opening stages of the campaign before moving to his preferred left back role during the remainder of his appearances.

Having worked with Wednesday boss Darren Moore at Wednesday, James also spent time in the Manchester United youth ranks alongside time at Wigan Athletic and Sunderland on a permanent basis. James will link up with Wednesday for their friendly against Harrogate on Friday before traveling to Portugal for their warm weather training camp.
