Blackburn Rovers set to complete Liverpool transfer trick with third loan signing

Blackburn Rovers are set to sign Tyler Morton on a season-long loan according to The Times.

Jon Dahl Tomasson has been keen to bolster his central midfield options after the exits of Joe Rothwell, Bradley Johnson and Jacob Davenport. Lewis Travis and John Buckley are the only senior midfield options though Jake Garrett and Adam Wharton have impressed during pre-season.

After breaking their duck in the transfer window with the acquisition of Callum Brittain, Rovers are now looking to sign Morton. This would be the third season in succession that a player has traded Anfield for Ewood Park on a temporary basis.

Harvey Elliott was a huge success in 2020/21 whilst Leighton Clarkson struggled and saw his deal cut short in January. Both clubs will be hoping this loan replicates the former, should it go through.

Morton has featured in the Premier League for Liverpool, making nine appearances in total. Having initially featured as a number six, he has been training as a number eight with Jurgen Klopp's first team.

A Championship loan is viewed as the next logical step in Morton's development and makes sense for Rovers too. The 19-year-old is an England Under-20 international and is highly rated at Anfield.
