Birmingham City transfers: Where Blues stand on Rangers link

Birmingham City are not pursuing a deal for Rangers defender Jack Simpson, BirminghamLive understands.

Blues were claimed to have made an approach to sign the 25-year-old towards the end of the January transfer window.

And Football Insider reckons they are still keen and could return for the centre back in the summer.

But we have been told he is not a target in the next window - one that will see Blues address their defensive situation.

As things stand they have Marc Roberts, George Friend and Harlee Dean under contract for next term although it is expected they will try to offload the latter.

Rookie Nico Gordon is back in action and played well at Bristol City while Tate Campbell, who is out of contract in the summer, can also play centre half.

As for Simpson, he has struggled to make an impact since joining Rangers from Bournemouth in February 2021. He has made only 13 appearances since then and has not been in a match-day squad in the league since January.

FI say the central defender has held talks with Rangers bosses and is expected to return to England at the end of the season.

Blues have already struck one deal with Rangers of late - one which saw Juninho Bacuna make the switch.
