Departing South African Darryn Binder has the dubious honour of topping the 2022 MotoGP crash stats with a whopping 27 falls over the season. The former Yamaha man, who is moving down to Moto2 next season, beat fellow rookie Marco Bezzecchi by four spills while Pol Espargaro - who really ought to know better - ended in third on 21.
Espargaro went one better than his 2021 total while fellow Honda man Alex Marquez amassed an equal number. Enea Bastiani - in his second year - crashed 18 times as did Marc Marquez but the former champion missed seven races in the season, so in percentage terms he is the winner.
At the other end of the scale, Maverick Vinales only lobbed it twice so was the least crash-happy of the regular runners. But there is a school of thought which says if you don’t fall off now and again, you’re not trying hard enough.
