Bill Belichick: Claim about Patriots coach should put rest of NFL on notice

Despite having recently turned 70, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick is showing no signs of winding down his career in the NFL, according to journalist and insider Albert Breer.

Breer has listed a number of factors that seem to hint that Belichick, the man who has presided over arguably the greatest dynasty in American sports, might not be ready to hang up his coaching headset just yet. 

It’s fair to say that the Tom Brady-Bill Belichick era that the NFL witnessed during the 21st century is hardly likely to ever be repeated again, but that doesn’t mean that Belichick is taking his foot off the pedal just yet.

Writing in an article for Sports Illustrated, Breer claimed that there were five factors that might give people reason to think before they assumed that Belichick was close to giving up any time soon. 

Perhaps the biggest revelation is that, despite his age, this appears to be the offseason that he is putting in more work, with Breer stating ‘’I had someone there tell me that this offseason he’s actually working more than he has in the recent past, which only speaks to the fact that, to borrow paraphrase an old Levy-ism, there really isn’t any place he’d rather be.’’

It sort of makes you wonder, if he’s working harder than he has been in the past when they ruled the league, just what is the league in for this coming season?

Breer also points out just how close Belichick with his 321 wins in the regular and postseason, is to passing both George Halas (324) and Don Shula (347) on the all-time list. Breer claims that Belichick could pass Shula in 2024, and if that is indeed the target, then we’ve certainly got to get used to Bill for a little bit longer.
