Big surprise: Journalist stunned by recent Wolves development coming out of Molineux

Journalist Josh Holland has admitted his shock at Wolves’ signing of Burnley defender Nathan Collins this summer.

The defender recently arrived made the switch from Burnley to Wolves for £20.5 million to become the club’s second summer arrival after they made Hwang Hee-chan permanent at the beginning of the transfer window.

At Burnley last season, Collins featured 19 times in the Premier League at just 21 years old, as the Clarets suffered relegation to the Championship. The young defender wasn’t in England’s second tier for long, however, with Wolves taking him back to the top flight.

Speaking on the transfer, Holland told GiveMeSport: “I think it’s a very different signing to what Wolves have been used to for the past few years.

“They’re not a club renowned for going into the domestic market and bringing in players who, obviously, he’s from a lower division but played in the Premier League last season, so it’s a bit of a shock.”

Perhaps it is a difficult transfer to appreciate just now given the young defender has cost over £20m despite playing less than a season’s worth of Premier League games.

Wolves have got themselves a central defender with plenty of potential, that’s undebatable, given his numbers last season. In just 19 appearances, the youngster made more tackles, and just four less interceptions than Wolves captain Conor Coady’s totals.

Under Bruno Lage, Collins has plenty of time to develop and improve even further. Next to players like Coady, too, he could go onto become a top signing for the Midlands club in the coming season.
