'Big' behind-scenes talks imminent at Everton - journalist

The Englishman steered the Toffees to safety in their penultimate game as they came from two goals down to beat Crystal Palace, which relieved the pressure heading into the final-day defeat at Arsenal. 

The former Chelsea manager was appointed as Rafael Benitez’s successor at the end of January, signing a contract until 2024, but despite doing what he was brought in to accomplish, doubts still remain over what lies ahead.

Jones has suggested that his future isn’t certain and that the 43-year-old will hold talks with club owner Farhad Moshiri and chairman Bill Kenwright.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think there will be a meeting in the coming days to look back on how things have panned out since he came in and what his vision is of turning the situation around.

“But I think it comes from Frank Lampard’s view as well as Everton’s. Is this panning out how Lampard sees fit for him? I think there’s a big discussion to be had there.”

It will be interesting to see whether the officials at Goodison Park have someone else in mind, but Lampard has no doubt earned a chance to have a full season at the Merseysiders. 

Amid the club’s worrying financial struggles, Football Insider reported that the club were planning a major overhaul in an attempt to balance the books, leaving the futures of star players Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison in jeopardy. 

The ex-Derby County boss could be left with little by way of cash to recruit new players and enhance the squad, but with a squad of 29 players, they could shift some deadwood and freshen things up.
