Biden to target Putin in State of the Union address - latest updates
US President Joe Biden is making his first State of the Union address. Advance excerpts released by the White House revealed Mr Biden is set to condemn Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Mr Biden plans to highlight the bravery of Ukrainian defenders and the resolve of a newly reinvigorated Western alliance that has worked to rearm the Ukrainian military and cripple Russia’s economy through sanctions.
He is set to deliver an ominous warning that without consequences, Russian President Vladimir Putin’s aggression would not be contained to Ukraine.
“Throughout our history we’ve learned this lesson – when dictators do not pay a price for their aggression, they cause more chaos,” Mr Biden is to say.
“They keep moving. And, the costs and threats to America and the world keep rising.”
He is also expected to announce that the US is closing airspace to Russian planes over the Ukraine invasion.
