"Bid has been submitted": Ex drops last-gasp WHU update, it'd be a "significant coup" - opinion

West Ham United have submitted an offer to bring Darwin Nunez to the London Stadium on transfer deadline day.

That’s according to a claim made by ExWHUemployee, who revealed in a recent post on The West Ham Way that David Moyes’ side have launched a last-minute offensive for the Benfica centre-forward, with the club insider suggesting that the Irons’ bid is of significant value.

In his post, Ex said: “We believe that one [bid] is for Darwin Nunez of Benfica. This bid has been submitted today and is said to be of significant value!

“The player is meant to be keen on the move but the chances of it happening are said to be ‘small’. If the club pull this off at the last minute it will be a significant coup, however, at this late stage, things will have to move at a rapid rate to be completed as he is currently on international duty with Uruguay.

“He has a fixture for [Uruguay] on February 1 (the day after the window closes). The player is 22 and very highly rated with a very good goal record [who] Benfica will be reluctant to sell. He has a release clause of £100m and it is thought a bid in excess of £50m will be needed to sign the player.

“The fact that Moyes is prepared to take a chance on him despite his age and lack of experience in the top division shows they believe in his potential. We will update you if the deal progresses or any others. This news has been checked by our two source policy including our top transfer one.”

Considering just how desperate West Ham have been for a second striker since the departure of Sebastien Haller a year ago, the news that Moyes has finally made a move to sign a replacement for the Ivory Coast international, particularly one as talented as Nunez, is sure to have left Hammers fans
