Bernhard Langer claims record-breaking win at US Senior Open

Bernhard Langer won a record 46th PGA Tour Champions title with victory in the US Senior Open.

The German, who turns 66 in September, overtook Hale Irwin's mark of 45 which had stood for 16 years with a two-shot victory over Steve Stricker at SentryWorld in Wisconsin to pick up a second US Senior Open 13 years after his first.

2022 winner Padraig Harrington finished tied for 18th on six over par after a carding a final-round 72, while Darren Clarke was nine over.

Langer, for the fifth time, broke his own record as the oldest winner in PGA Tour Champions history at 65 years and 10 months and also extended the record number of senior major titles held to 12, in addition to his two Masters wins on the regular circuit back in 1985 and 1993.

"I have my mother that's going to be 100 on 4 August, so I think I have good genes," said Langer, who shot a one-under-par 70 in the final round.

"Hopefully, I'll be around a few more years."

Langer, who finished on seven-under, was one of only eight players who broke par for the week.

"There are a lot more aches and pains than 10 years ago," said Langer. "I still enjoy the game. If I play like I did this week, I'm going to keep playing."
