The MEN reported this week that United are advancing with a move for RB Leipzig star Benjamin Sesko.
United have been looking to sign an out-and-out striker throughout the summer and were handed the bitter pill of rejection when Liam Delap opted for a move to Chelsea.
Amorim's side and recruitment chiefs at Old Trafford have received encouragement over the pursuit of Sesko.
